CASTLEABBEY CANINE ACADEMY
TERMS & CONDITIONS
Last updated: 23 September 2026
These Terms & Conditions apply to services provided by Castleabbey Canine Academy, operated by Martin Power.
By purchasing, booking or proceeding with a Castleabbey Canine Academy service, the customer confirms that they have read and accepted these Terms & Conditions together with the description, price and conditions stated for the service purchased.
1. PAYMENT
Payment is required in full before a service begins unless Castleabbey Canine Academy has agreed different payment arrangements in writing.
A service is confirmed once payment has been successfully received.
Payment covers only the service purchased.
Additional consultations, additional dogs, additional training, additional appointments, additional time or work outside the purchased service are charged separately.
2. SERVICE START
The purchased service begins immediately after successful payment.
At checkout, the customer confirms:
“I agree that the service begins immediately after purchase.”
For a consultation, the service begins immediately and includes the consultation process, questionnaire, review of information supplied, preparation, assessment, reservation of the appointment time, the consultation itself and the advice provided.
For another Castleabbey Canine Academy service, the service begins on the start date stated for that service.
Time and work already provided form part of the paid service.
3. MANDATORY CONSULTATION
A paid consultation is required before Castleabbey Canine Academy provides further dog training or handler coaching for a new customer or dog.
The consultation fee is currently €60.
The consultation fee pays for Martin Power’s time, experience, assessment and advice.
The consultation is used to establish the dog’s history, temperament, previous training, current behaviour, relevant health information, the handler’s experience and the customer’s objectives.
The consultation is the first stage of working with Castleabbey Canine Academy.
Completion of the consultation does not guarantee acceptance into any further service.
Castleabbey Canine Academy decides after the consultation whether further work will be offered.
If Castleabbey Canine Academy decides not to proceed with further work, the consultation remains a completed paid professional service.
The consultation fee does not become credit towards another service.
4. THE CONSULTATION FEE PAYS FOR THE COMPLETE CONSULTATION SERVICE
The €60 consultation fee is not payment solely for the time spent speaking to Martin Power.
It covers the complete consultation process, including receiving and reviewing the questionnaire, assessing the information supplied, preparing for the consultation, reserving the customer’s appointment time, conducting the consultation and providing advice.
Professional time is therefore being used before the consultation call takes place.
The outcome of the consultation does not affect the fee.
5. ACCURATE INFORMATION IS REQUIRED
The customer must provide complete, truthful and accurate information about the dog.
This includes information concerning the dog’s history, previous training, temperament, behaviour, aggression, biting, snapping, guarding, reactivity, behaviour around people, children and other animals, injuries, medical conditions, medication and previous incidents.
Relevant information must not be deliberately withheld.
Castleabbey Canine Academy bases its assessment and advice on the information supplied by the customer.
If important information is false, misleading or withheld, Castleabbey Canine Academy can immediately stop the service and refuse further work.
6. QUESTIONNAIRE
The consultation questionnaire must be completed accurately before the consultation takes place.
The questionnaire forms part of the customer’s service record.
The questionnaire is used by Martin Power to gather information and prepare for the consultation.
Submitting the questionnaire does not entitle the customer to additional advice outside the service purchased.
7. CONSULTATION BOOKING DEADLINE
The customer must complete the questionnaire and book their video consultation within 30 calendar days of purchasing the consultation.
The consultation does not remain available indefinitely.
If the customer books within the 30-day period and the available appointment falls after Day 30, the confirmed booking remains valid.
If the customer fails to book within the 30-day period, any later appointment depends on Castleabbey Canine Academy having availability.
8. RESERVED APPOINTMENT TIME
Once an appointment is confirmed, that time is reserved specifically for the customer.
The customer must choose a date and time they are available to attend.
A booked appointment should not be made on the assumption that it can later be moved.
Castleabbey Canine Academy reserves professional time for the customer and can therefore be prevented from offering that appointment to another customer.
9. APPOINTMENT CHANGES
A request to change an appointment must be made at least 48 hours before the scheduled appointment.
Giving 48 hours’ notice does not guarantee another appointment.
An appointment is changed only when Castleabbey Canine Academy has another suitable appointment available and confirms the new appointment.
Castleabbey Canine Academy does not rearrange other customers or existing commitments to accommodate an appointment change.
Repeated appointment changes are not included in the original consultation fee.
10. LESS THAN 48 HOURS’ NOTICE
Where less than 48 hours’ notice is provided, Castleabbey Canine Academy is not required to provide a replacement appointment under the original booking.
A further consultation can require a new consultation fee.
11. MISSED APPOINTMENTS
If the customer fails to attend, fails to answer, fails to join the scheduled call or is unavailable at the agreed appointment time, the appointment is treated as missed.
A missed appointment does not automatically entitle the customer to another appointment without further payment.
12. LATENESS
A customer who joins late does not receive additional consultation time.
The appointment finishes at the originally scheduled finishing time.
If the customer is too late for the consultation to be completed properly, the appointment is treated as missed.
13. CONSULTATION DURATION
A 30-minute consultation provides up to 30 minutes of scheduled consultation time.
Additional time is not included in the original consultation fee.
Additional consultation time or another consultation is charged separately.
14. ACCEPTANCE FOR FURTHER TRAINING
Castleabbey Canine Academy chooses which dogs and customers it works with.
Further work can be refused because of the dog’s history, temperament, behaviour, health, safety concerns, training requirements, the handler, unrealistic expectations or because the requested work is not suitable for Castleabbey Canine Academy.
Paying for a consultation does not purchase a place in another service.
15. NO GUARANTEE OF RESULTS
Castleabbey Canine Academy does not guarantee any particular training, behavioural, working or performance result.
Every dog is different.
Results depend on the individual dog, temperament, genetics, age, health, previous experiences, established behaviour, previous training, environment, handler ability, consistency, frequency of training and how the advice provided is applied.
Accepting a dog for further work does not mean that Castleabbey Canine Academy guarantees every issue can be corrected.
It does not guarantee that a dog can be trained to a particular standard.
The customer pays for Castleabbey Canine Academy’s time, experience, assessment, training direction, advice, feedback and handler coaching.
The customer does not pay for a guaranteed outcome.
16. REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS
Training is based on the dog that is actually presented to Castleabbey Canine Academy.
The dog’s age, history, temperament, previous experiences and established behaviour affect what can realistically be achieved.
A dog with years of established behaviour cannot be assumed to respond in the same way as a young dog without that history.
Castleabbey Canine Academy does not guarantee that long-established behaviour can be completely changed.
17. CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY FOR TRAINING
Where the owner or handler is carrying out the training, that person is responsible for applying the guidance provided.
Castleabbey Canine Academy is not responsible for lack of progress caused by inconsistent training, failure to follow guidance, stopping training, introducing conflicting methods or allowing other people to handle the dog differently.
18. DIFFERENT HANDLERS CAN PRODUCE DIFFERENT RESULTS
A dog performing correctly for Martin Power or another experienced handler does not guarantee that the dog will perform identically for its owner or another handler.
Timing, consistency, experience, confidence, technique and the relationship between the dog and handler affect performance.
19. OWNER RESPONSIBILITY
The customer remains responsible for their dog.
The customer is responsible for controlling, supervising and handling the dog safely.
The customer is responsible for suitable equipment and compliance with applicable dog-control requirements.
Advice from Castleabbey Canine Academy does not transfer responsibility for the dog to Castleabbey Canine Academy.
20. SAFETY, AGGRESSION AND BITE HISTORY
All known aggression, biting, snapping, guarding, serious reactivity and threatening behaviour must be disclosed.
Castleabbey Canine Academy can immediately stop working with a dog where continuing creates an unacceptable safety risk.
Castleabbey Canine Academy can require different equipment, a lead, long line, muzzle, veterinary assessment, specialist assessment or other safety measures before work continues.
Failure to disclose a known serious safety issue is grounds for ending the service.
21. HEALTH AND VETERINARY MATTERS
Known medical conditions, injuries, pain and medication relevant to training must be disclosed.
Castleabbey Canine Academy provides dog-training and handler-coaching services.
Castleabbey Canine Academy does not provide veterinary diagnosis or veterinary treatment.
Where a medical issue could be affecting the dog, veterinary assessment can be required before further training takes place.
30-DAY DOG TRAINING & HANDLER COACHING
22. CONSULTATION MUST BE COMPLETED FIRST
The mandatory consultation must be completed before the customer is accepted for 30 days of access to Castleabbey Canine Academy for dog training and handler coaching.
This ensures that Martin Power already knows the dog’s history, has assessed the situation and has decided that the dog and handler are suitable for further work.
The consultation also allows the customer to understand what further work involves before purchasing it.
23. WHAT THE CUSTOMER IS PAYING FOR
The customer is paying for access to Martin Power and Castleabbey Canine Academy’s dog-training and handler-coaching expertise for 30 consecutive calendar days.
The service is based on Martin Power’s professional time, availability, experience, assessment, advice, feedback and coaching.
The fee is not calculated according to how many times the customer chooses to contact Castleabbey Canine Academy.
The customer is paying for access to the service for the agreed period.
24. START OF THE 30 DAYS
The 30-day access period begins on the date of purchase.
The purchase date is Day 1.
If the service is purchased on Monday, Monday is Day 1.
The customer then has access to Castleabbey Canine Academy for the remaining consecutive days of the agreed 30-day period.
25. THE 30 DAYS RUN CONTINUOUSLY
The 30 days run continuously from Day 1.
The period does not pause, restart or extend because the customer is busy, unavailable, working, travelling, on holiday, does not train the dog, does not submit videos or does not contact Castleabbey Canine Academy.
26. UNUSED ACCESS
The customer is responsible for making use of the access available.
The fee is payable for making Castleabbey Canine Academy available to the customer for the agreed period. It is not based on how often the customer chooses to use that access.
Unused access expires at the end of Day 30.
Unused days do not transfer to another month or another service.
Castleabbey Canine Academy does not chase customers to train, submit videos, provide updates or ask questions.
A customer choosing not to use all of the access provided does not create an entitlement to additional days, credit or a replacement service.
27. SUPPORT DURING THE 30 DAYS
Support relates to the dog and training situation already assessed through the mandatory consultation.
The service can include review of training videos, assessment of progress, feedback, training direction, correction of handling issues, handler coaching and advice on what to work on next.
Access does not mean unlimited telephone calls, unlimited video consultations or immediate 24-hour availability.
28. VIDEO SUBMISSIONS
The customer can submit relevant videos of the dog and handler for assessment during the service period.
Castleabbey Canine Academy reviews the material and provides feedback based on what can reasonably be observed and on the information available.
The customer must not deliberately hide relevant information or edit material in a way that creates a misleading impression of the dog or training situation.
29. NEW DOGS
Access purchased for one dog does not automatically cover another dog.
A new dog requires its own mandatory consultation before Castleabbey Canine Academy provides further training advice concerning that dog.
30. SUBSTANTIALLY DIFFERENT TRAINING ISSUES
The service applies to the dog and training situation assessed through the consultation.
A substantially different issue requiring a new assessment can require another consultation.
RECORDS AND EVIDENCE OF THE SERVICE PROVIDED
31. SERVICE RECORDS
Castleabbey Canine Academy keeps records relating to services provided.
Records can include questionnaire answers, appointment information, consultation notes, customer videos, training notes, messages, advice and feedback.
These records provide an accurate history of the information supplied by the customer and the advice provided by Castleabbey Canine Academy.
32. RECORDING CONSULTATIONS
Video consultations can be recorded.
The customer is informed before recording begins.
Where consent is required, recording begins after consent is obtained.
A recording can form part of the customer’s service record and can be retained for accuracy, training history, safety, complaints, payment disputes or other disputes.
Recordings are not published publicly without separate permission unless disclosure is legally required.
33. RECORD OF ADVICE PROVIDED
Castleabbey Canine Academy keeps records so that later disagreements concerning what was disclosed, discussed, recommended or advised can be checked against the available record.
The complete available record can be relied upon when responding to a complaint, allegation, chargeback or other dispute.
34. CUSTOMER COMMUNICATIONS
A customer must not deliberately edit or present Castleabbey Canine Academy’s communications in a way that materially changes their meaning or removes important context.
Nothing in this clause prevents an honest complaint, review or lawful statement.
35. CUSTOMER VIDEOS AND PHOTOGRAPHS
Videos and photographs supplied by customers can be retained for assessment, feedback, training records, progress records, safety and dispute resolution.
Supplying material for training does not automatically give Castleabbey Canine Academy permission to publish identifiable customer material for advertising.
Separate permission is required for public promotional use.
TRAINING MATERIAL AND PRIVATE ACCESS
36. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Castleabbey Canine Academy’s training videos, written guidance, instructions, training plans, documents and other original educational material remain the property of Castleabbey Canine Academy.
Paid material is supplied for the customer’s personal use.
It must not be sold, redistributed, uploaded publicly, published on social media or used commercially to provide training to another person without permission.
37. PRIVATE CLIENT ACCESS
Private customer accounts and client portals are for the named customer.
Login details must not be shared.
Paid private material must not be deliberately distributed to other people.
Castleabbey Canine Academy can terminate access where private access or protected material is deliberately misused.
CUSTOMER CONDUCT AND TERMINATION
38. CUSTOMER CONDUCT
Abusive, threatening, intimidating, discriminatory or harassing behaviour towards Martin Power or anyone acting for Castleabbey Canine Academy is not accepted.
Castleabbey Canine Academy can end communication and terminate a service where this occurs.
Normal questions, disagreement or complaints made appropriately are not treated as abusive behaviour.
39. TERMINATION BY CASTLEABBEY CANINE ACADEMY
Castleabbey Canine Academy can terminate a service because of serious safety concerns, undisclosed aggression, material false information, abusive behaviour, deliberate misuse of the service, deliberate sharing of protected material, illegal activity or serious failure to follow essential safety instructions.
Work already provided remains part of the paid service.
Any amount legally required to be returned is dealt with in accordance with applicable law.
40. FALSE OR MISLEADING ALLEGATIONS
Castleabbey Canine Academy keeps records of customer information, communications and advice.
Those records can be used to respond accurately to complaints, allegations and payment disputes.
Castleabbey Canine Academy reserves all legal rights concerning statements that are knowingly false or defamatory.
OTHER CASTLEABBEY CANINE ACADEMY SERVICES
41. EXTRA WORK
Work outside the service purchased is charged separately.
Previous payment for one service does not create an entitlement to additional consultations, additional dogs, additional appointments or unrelated training advice without further payment.
42. ONE-TO-ONE TRAINING
One-to-one training is provided for the duration and price agreed at booking.
Additional sessions and additional time are charged separately.
The safety, owner-responsibility, accurate-information and no-guaranteed-results provisions of these Terms also apply.
43. GROUP TRAINING, CLASSES, WORKSHOPS AND TRAINING DAYS
Customers attending group sessions must follow Castleabbey Canine Academy’s safety instructions.
Dogs must remain appropriately controlled.
A customer must not allow their dog to approach another dog or person without permission.
A dog or handler creating an unacceptable safety risk or serious disruption can be removed from the session.
Specific terms stated for an individual event operate alongside these Terms.
44. FUTURE SERVICES
Castleabbey Canine Academy can introduce additional services.
A new service can have its own service-specific conditions covering its price, duration, booking requirements and what is included.
Those service-specific conditions operate alongside these master Terms & Conditions.
CANCELLATIONS, UNUSED SERVICES AND REFUNDS
45. CUSTOMER CHANGES THEIR MIND
A customer changing their mind does not undo professional time or work already provided.
Questionnaire review, preparation, assessment, reserved appointment time, consultation, training direction, video review, feedback, coaching and other work already supplied remain part of the paid service.
A customer choosing not to continue does not automatically create an entitlement to a refund, credit, replacement appointment or extension.
46. UNUSED ACCESS
Where the customer has purchased access for a fixed period, Castleabbey Canine Academy makes that service available for the agreed period.
The customer deciding not to use some or all of that available access does not automatically create an entitlement to a refund, credit or extension.
47. TRAINING RESULTS AND REFUNDS
Failure to achieve the particular result the customer hoped for does not create an entitlement to a refund where Castleabbey Canine Academy has provided the contracted professional service correctly.
Training results are not guaranteed.
48. CASTLEABBEY CANINE ACADEMY CANNOT PROVIDE THE AGREED SERVICE
Where Castleabbey Canine Academy cannot provide an agreed paid service, the affected service will be rearranged, replaced or refunded as required by the circumstances and applicable law.
49. STATUTORY RIGHTS
Nothing in these Terms removes a statutory consumer right that cannot legally be excluded.
That single clause is intentionally included so the remainder of the Terms are not written as attempting to override mandatory Irish law. Irish consumer law requires service-contract terms to be transparent and prevents mandatory rights from simply being contracted away. (ccpc.ie)
PAYMENT DISPUTES
50. CHARGEBACKS AND PAYMENT DISPUTES
Castleabbey Canine Academy retains payment and service records.
Where a chargeback or payment dispute is raised, relevant records can be provided to the payment processor, card provider, bank or other institution dealing with the dispute.
These records can include proof of payment, checkout acceptance, questionnaire responses, appointment information, consultation records, messages, videos, feedback and evidence of services supplied.
Knowingly false or fraudulent payment disputes will be challenged.
GENERAL BUSINESS TERMS
51. THIRD-PARTY SYSTEMS
Castleabbey Canine Academy uses external providers for functions including payment processing, booking, client communication, video calls and customer records.
A temporary failure of an external platform does not cancel the remainder of the service.
Where a technical failure prevents an agreed appointment or part of a service from being provided, that affected part will be provided by another suitable method or rearranged.
52. CUSTOMER CONTACT DETAILS
The customer must provide accurate contact information.
The customer is responsible for monitoring the email address, telephone number or client communication channel supplied.
Castleabbey Canine Academy is not responsible for information missed because the customer supplied incorrect details or failed to check their communications.
53. CONFIRMATION EMAILS AND LINKS
The customer is responsible for retaining booking confirmations and relevant service links.
The customer is responsible for completing required booking steps within the deadlines stated in these Terms.
54. PRIVACY AND RECORDS
Personal information is used to provide Castleabbey Canine Academy services, communicate with customers, maintain customer and training records, maintain financial records, manage safety issues and deal with complaints, payment disputes and legal requirements.
Personal information is not sold to third parties.
Information can be processed through service providers required to operate the business.
55. LIABILITY
Castleabbey Canine Academy provides its services with reasonable care and skill.
The customer remains responsible for their dog and for the way training guidance is applied.
Castleabbey Canine Academy is not responsible for consequences caused by false or incomplete information, undisclosed behaviour, failure to follow essential safety instructions, misuse of advice, failure to supervise or control the dog or conflicting training introduced by another person.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.
56. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS
Castleabbey Canine Academy can update these Terms & Conditions for future purchases as the business develops or new services are introduced.
The version applying when the customer purchases a service remains the record of the Terms accepted for that purchase.
57. GOVERNING LAW
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of Ireland.
